Dorset Deaf Children's Society

On Sunday 10th April 2011 thirty two families (113 people) from Dorset DCS descended on Marwell Activity Centre for a day full of activities for the children and a relaxing and social day for the parents. 

For the past two years Dorset DCS has funded a residential activity weekend at PGL Osmington. This year it was decided that we would do something different which included all the family and all ages. Don’t worry PGL has not disappeared and we hope to organise it again as long as funds are available!

Sixty children and young people from the age of 4 years old to the oldest at 22 years old took part in the activities supervised by the Marwell Staff. They were organised into five different groups depending on age. The youngest group age 4 years old to 7 years old enjoyed Mini Cars, an Assault Course and Zip Wire whilst the children and young people aged 8 years old to 15 years old tackled their own Zip Wire, Quad Biking and Assault Course The over 16’s and young adults drove Max Kats, pelted each other with Paintball and scared themselves on the High Ropes! There was even something for the children under the age of four who were able to use the soft play barn. 

The added bonus for the day was a visit from the NDCS Listening Bus manned by Louise Halvey and our Family Officer, Louise Morris. Louise Halvey even managed to join in and have a go at the zip wire! Refreshments were served all day long and lunch was provided by Dorset DCS. The weather was glorious and we seemed to have the whole place to ourselves. Parents could watch the children having fun or sit in the sunshine and relax, have a cup of tea and catch up with friends and even make new ones!
